Income Initiative
United Way is creating opportunities by focusing on the building blocks for a good life – Education, Income & Health.
Under our Income Initiative, we have pulled together a Community Solutions Council, made up of representatives from local service agencies, banks, government, schools, and companies. This council has been charged with the task of helping families and individuals become financially stable and independent. We believe that if we can help everyone increase their income, build savings and gain assets, the community as a whole will benefit. More details to follow when this group narrows down on a specific issue!

Pathway to Prosperity
United Way of West Central Connecticut uses the Pathway to Prosperity model to try to reach our goals of financial independence and stability. This model’s objective is: “Financial independence with a pathway to sustainable asset development.” There are five steps along the Pathway: Economic & Family Supports, Managing Money, Saving Money, Making More Money, and Sustainable Asset Development. We started our work with free tax preparation sites and EITC tax credit promotions. From there, we are moving along the pathway to managing and saving money. We are hoping to offer financial education for those who want it, paired with long-term budget coaching to ensure we are having the most impact possible. We will also be partnering with Credit Unions across the state to offer “financial reality fairs” to high school students in our area.
