About Us

The United Way of West Central Connecticut originated as the Community Chest of Bristol, Conn. in 1922 and later expanded into the towns of Burlington and Plymouth. The United Way of Bristol, Burlington and Plymouth merged with the United Way of Plainville in 1996 to form the United Way of West Central Connecticut, which is one of 22 independent United Ways in Connecticut and one of 1,350 national and worldwide agencies. The United Way of West Central Connecticut has been in partnership with individuals, business and organizations working to improve community life for over 85 years.

Our Mission

To increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.

Our Vision

In order to build a stronger, healthier, more compassionate community, charitable giving must be combined with the collaboration of our human strengths and resources… that’s the United Way.

Through a vast network of volunteers and partner organizations, local United Way agencies throughout America help meet the health and human-care needs of millions of people every day. United Way’s 110 year history is built on the proven effectiveness of local organizations helping people in their own communities.

The United Way of West Central Connecticut is governed by a local board of directors and services the area of Bristol, Burlington, Plainville and Plymouth.

United Way consists of a team of hundreds of volunteers from all sectors of the community, and professional staff members whose goal it is to:

  • Convene and establish partnerships to facilitate strategies to improve community life;
  • Raise financial resources through an annual campaign and efficiently invest in priority program services and strategic community initiatives; and
  • Promote and provide a broad range of volunteer opportunities connecting individuals, families and businesses to the community.

The New Model

In 2001, the United Way of West Central Connecticut began a business transformation process. This process has resulted in a new business model in an effort to become more relevant and effectively impact the communities we serve.

United Way is still the most effective way for you to invest and participate in your community. Together, we are the leader and catalyst for change in the business of caring.
